Lifestyle and Livelihood

Unsustainable human activities and interventions, have expedited the problems related to our shelter, environment, food, health, society, culture and working pattern, caused by our lifestyles and livelihoods. Lifestyle refers to the way we live our lives on day to day basis. On the other hand, livelihood comprises of the capabilities, assets and activities required for a means of living. Lifestyle and livelihood covers all our preferences, actions and activities-whether at home or at work -on energy use, transportation, food, waste, communication and occupation. Appropriate lifestyles as well as livelihoods are the only way to have a more healthy, congenial and sustainable environment at the household, community and society level.

Under this sub-theme, children are expected to learn various issues related to waste generation and management, growing, preparing, storing, handling, consuming, disposal and management of food, habits and sustainability, impacts of lifestyles and livelihoods on culture and community, diseases caused by lifestyles and livelihoods, carbon footprints and impacts of handprints, impact of environmental sensitivity on lifestyles, relationship among lifestyle and livelihood, economy and environment etc.

Project Ideas :
Studying lifestyle and livelihood related waste generation and management, mapping of changes in community lifestyles and livelihoods in temporal and spatial dimension, food and energy consumption pattern in different areas, survey on lunch box on your school as well as in any other institution, study on lifestyle diseases etc, measuring carbon footprint and its comparison with the impact of handprint, analytical study on the impacts of communication technology and social media on community and cult, case studies of sustainable livelihood system, analytical study on the impacts of self help groups, Analysis on occupational mobility and migration etc.
