Health, Hygiene and Nutrition

The strong correlation between health and nutrition (World Bank 2013) are well documented; good health is not possible without good nutrition. Malnutrition is one of the major factors associated with diseases, where 45 % of child mortality is due to under-nutrition. Today more than 1 billion people are undernourished and food insecure. Undernourishment compromises immune system which ultimately leads to frequent illness and diseases. According to UNICEF, 195 million children younger than 5, are chronically malnourished. It also affects the economic condition of a country as it leads to reduction in human resource productivity. Deficient hygiene, sanitation and water supply is also another key factor contributing massive disease burden. International policy on drinking water and sanitation is not adequate. Hence cost effective interventions, new technology, active involvement of health professionals and awareness programs can play a crucial role towards progress in this area, thereby affecting sustainable development targets.

Project Ideas : Impact of nutrition (malnutrition, deficiency of vital elements, balanced diet), hygiene (at personal and community levels, as well as at home, school or workplace), sanitation (cleanliness in and around us, cleanliness of water) on the health of an individual or community etc.
