Energy

Energy affects all aspects of development - social, economic and environmental-including livelihoods, access to water, agricultural productivity, health, population levels, education and gender related issues. Per capita energy consumption is one of the key deciding factors of sustainable development and is also a poverty reduction indicator. Energy is mainly used for domestic, agriculture, industry, transport as well as communication. Efforts towards sustainable energy has two main components namely use of renewable energy (solar, wind, hydel, bio-mass, geothermal resources etc.) and adapting energy efficient measures (a cost effective way of increasing security, improving competitiveness and providing affordable services).

Under this sub theme the children need to identify the energy resources and find ways to harness it, identify approaches to achieve optimum use through enhancing energy efficiency and energy conservation along with creating awareness among the masses for sustainable development and betterment of the society through their project works.

Project Ideas
Locally available energy resources, Assessment of local solar/hydel/thermal energy capacity, Estimation of biomass energy stock in a school compound, comparative study of Traditional chullah with improved chullah, Innovative solar cooker design, Energy conservation, Energy planning for transport system, Energy systems in development of a green building, energy consumption in agriculture and allied sector, Energy audit, Efficient energy modelling, Design of artificial light by using natural sources etc.
