Science Technology and Innovation (STI) for Natural Resource Management

Natural resources, whether biotic or abiotic, renewable or non-renewable, are very important for the development of an economy. While renewable resources regenerates by themselves in the nature, non-renewable resources are limited and do not replenish within our life time.  Increasing population as well as the ever growing demand for development put a constant pressure on these natural resources beyond nature’s capacity to restore and replenish, apart from the obvious implications of natural resource extraction on the environment. So, we must aim for planned development and sustainable use of these resources, considering the principles of the 3R -Reduce, Reuse and Recycle; so that we have enough for our future generations.

Project Ideas:
Different aspects of natural resource extraction, processing, value addition, optimising natural resource uses; Identification of new natural resources; New/ better uses of already available natural resources ; Review /impact assessment of existing technology on natural resources and strategies to address the negative impacts; Natural resource mapping and management planning, like watershed/micro-watershed planning; Water, sand, and soil quality analysis and mapping; Water quality management, tools and techniques for water treatment or water harvesting and management; Land use and land cover mapping, land use planning; Mapping of biodiversity of village, ward, school, sacred groves, village forest, gardens, etc;  Population studies of a species and developing conservation and management planning with help of experts.
